I've talked previously about putting together content plans. We've also spent time talking about how AI is changing the way people use the internet. This week, we are going to combine these two topics together so that you can understand how my habits have changed.
This thing we used to call the world wide web and Search Engine Optimization are changing due to user habits and new technology. There is still a game to be played, but the content you use to play the game is changing. Subtly in some ways.
My goal on The Porch is to help you win that game. So grab the coffee and let's get to work!
There is a regular joke that math haters will tell whenever given the opportunity. When I was a much younger lad, the math teachers in school used to tell us that we needed to learn these things because we wouldn't be able to carry a calculator in our pocket. Boy were they wrong!
Your phone does a lot of things, including complex mathematics with just a little massaging from specific tools. I also remember getting my first TI-95 calculator when I was in college and realized that I could program it do my calculus homework for me. It may have been even more life changing than what we can do on our phones today.
Doing my calculus homework was one thing, but I also had to change how I taught high school algebra in the late 90s because of those pesky calculators. Learning how to solve problems changed because it was becoming about learning how to leverage the new technology that was available to us.
Technological advances have been going on for millennia. The pace of the advances seems to be accelerating with each new round of computer specs. The large language models and neural networks that we refer to as Artificial Intelligence is creating as much havoc for internet use today as the calculators on our phones did for my ninth grade algebra teacher trying to motivate us to learn the concepts.
You can either learn to embrace the change and use it, or cry over lost homework that doesn't show the work the calculator did for your. My goal this week is to help you understand this and begin the process of beating the competition.
So gather round and let's talk about how you can adjust your content planning and creation so that you can win the game. The coffee is flowing.
