Uncle Ron's Porch - The Real Connection Paradox

Creating Connections!

Last week, we touched on some unconventional and old school marketing methods. As we look towards 2025, we need to dig deeper into how these and other unconventional ideas can help you generate more sales.

As much as I hate the phrase "post-COVID", we need to understand that the world is different now than it was before. The internet is seeing a drastic change, and we have to account for it.

This week, we are going to hop on how to take these thoughts, turn them into ideas, and create connections in 2025. So grab the stiffest coffee you've got, and lets find some new ways to get customers.

Paradoxical

I am known as a technology forward guy. My career in insurance and financial services dates back to 2000 when I worked for a little company called Transamerica. I helped them ditch paper filings for policies in favor of sending those documents and data via DVD instead. Saved the company a lot of money and helped us operate more efficiently. Seems rather archaic these days.

When I started my insurance agency over a decade ago, I was very pro technology. We began using social media very early. I was doing digital marketing when my captive insurance company told me that I wasn't supposed to. 😏 If you can relate hit me with an email and tell me your fun story.

When I sold the first insurance agency because I realized they were sucking the life out of me, I started over with Insurance For Texans. We pursued SEO from the start. I have data in my CRM that predates this business. We were using social media heavily. We were paperless before that was a thing.

Since my insurance agency was already running as technology forward in March 2020 when the world shut down, we just kept our heads down and worked as we always had while many people were binge watching Netflix. While I didn't watch much TV, we emerged in 2021 bigger than we were "Pre-COVID" as the world opened back up.

Insurance agents around the US have asked me for help with their organic digital marketing over the years. We launched Sprocket Expert Optimizations in early 2023 to help other insurance agents and businesses use SEO to grow their businesses similarly to how we have grown ours. Many of you have benefited from the course, coaching, or done for you content.

I'm going somewhere with this, so hang with me. If you have learned something from one of my podcasts or other mechanisms of learning, send me an email back and let me know what it is. It helps me know what matters.

So where am I going with all of this? I have been evaluating my the performance of my marketing and business activities over the last six months. I am seeing very stark changes in how this thing called digital marketing is working. What was "working" a year ago is not at all the same now.

As I have been shifting some of the things that we do and working to find words to communicate these changes with you, one of my old online mentors has resurfaced. Ryan Levesque is someone that I have a lot of respect for and was the beneficiary of hearing him speak recently. And boy did he deliver.

Ryan spent an hour speaking on what he describes as a sea change in online marketing. He was able to put formality to what I was seeing in my own business. People are more online than ever, but are more lonely than ever as well.

We have more "connection" and "information" at our fingertips than ever before, and we crave "real connection" more than ever before. It's paradoxical.

This week's episodes on The Porch are geared at this paradox and how you can begin to take advantage of it. It's a combination of my own observations, and insights from an expert that I have deep respect for in this game. So let's skip straight to the French Press this week and get rolling.
