Everywhere you turn, there is the next great AI Tool. I have at least two cold emails a day that have a promise of AI changing how I run my insurance agency.
I see the absolute poop storm of content that is getting pushed on social media. Much of it is absolute garbage. But more is more! Am I Right?
Maybe it is my age, but it bothers the crap out of me to see dumb stuff that isn't funny, right, or well thought out.
How can we be different? How can we stand out? Oh, that's what we are talking about this week!
The legends and lore of the California Gold Rush are monumental. People romanticize the prospectors that stuck a vein and became rich. That period of history brought so many Westward in search of those riches.
The city of San Francisco boasts an NFL franchise named the 49ers. That moniker was the name given to the some 300,000 prospectors that made their way to California to look for gold. The largest wave came of those prospectors came in 1849. Hopefully that connection is obvious.
As this wave of immigrants came in search of riches, many businesses sprung up to support them. These people were new to California and needed food, tools, and supplies. Mercantile stores found sustainable incomes in providing these things supporting the folks looking to strike it rich. They connected locally with the neighbors around them while also fueling the prospects of those seeking the mother lode.
In 1853 a Bavarian immigrant opened a dry goods business to do just this purpose. As Levi Strauss served the prospectors, he recognized the need for durable clothing that would support the hard work that these prospectors were performing day and night. He had a bit ingenuity in combining a tough material called denim with copper rivets to make waist overalls that would ultimately become what we know as blue jeans.
As you know, these proved to be quite a hit. Strauss saw a need, crafted a solution, and allowed it to connect with his intended audience. He also recognized that many other hard working people could benefit from his offer. He delivered this authentic and real solution, even if it was on the tail end of the Gold Rush that primarily wrapped up in 1855.
The harsh reality for almost 100% of the prospectors in the Gold Rush is that they did not strike it rich. Some found some gold, but the number of mother lodes was minimal. The copycats didn't find what they were looking for.
Levi Strauss created an authentic and real solution and found his fame and fortune. This week on The Porch, we are going to focus on how you can bridge the gap from artificial to authentic to connect with your crowd. Grab your coffee and let's go!
